Overview
The Negotiations Committee is responsible for securing contractual improvements that reflect the priorities and needs of the Breeze pilot group. By conducting surveys, polling, and informal discussions, the committee actively gathers input to ensure the pilot group’s voice is heard and represented at the bargaining table.
Working in close coordination with ALPA’s professional negotiators and economic advisors, the committee develops strategies and crafts formal proposals aimed at achieving meaningful contractual gains. If direct negotiations stall or fail to progress as expected, the committee may recommend that the Master Executive Council, MEC request mediation through the National Mediation Board, NMB transitioning negotiations into a formal mediation phase.
The committee is also tasked with recognizing when an impasse has been reached and may advise the MEC to request a release to self-help from the NMB, in accordance with the Railway Labor Act.
While negotiations are often complex and time-consuming, the continuity, discipline, and focus of the Negotiations Committee are essential to achieving a successful and sustainable agreement for all Breeze pilots.
